Exercise is an important element in the detoxification process. The lymphatic system depends on muscle movement (exercise) and breath for stimulation. When you exercise, the lymph fluid can speed up from about 120ml per hour to as much as 1800 ml per hour. As a result, the circulation of lymph is improved, helping you to eliminate toxins and waste as well as boosting your immune system.
Exercise also stimulates sweating and thus encourages elimination of toxins through the skin. In addition, exercise helps burn fat which in turn releases toxins stored in the fat cells into the blood stream for elimination.
During the 7-day detox program, opt for more gentle workouts, such as taking a 20-minute walk or doing yoga or tai chi. It is best to avoid strenuous activities while the body rejuvenates so that it can devote the majority of its resources to healing and cleansing itself. Always balance exercise with recovery. Exercising outdoors in the fresh air and sunshine may feel especially good. However, it is important that you do not add to your toxic burden by walking or jogging along crowded, polluted roads.
